First Rabbits of Spring
There they were, calmly munching on grass over a block away from home. They were my first sighting of rabbits this spring. Even yards away on the sidewalk, it was clear they were adults. I spotted them during a walk at 9:35 AM on March 26, 2026. Unfortunately, I only had my cell phone with me. It has a bad zoom, but I couldn’t resist taking a photo of them.

During five months of snow, rabbit tracks and spoor were the only evidence of rabbits. Occasionally we saw them in the dark. One night, through my kitchen window, I watched a rabbit gnaw at a hedge branch till it broke off. That rabbit ate the bark till it was satiated before it hopped out of sight.
